“This guys outfit is totally trash-y!”
Environmental activist Rob Greenfield is collecting every single piece of garbage he generates in a month (Just the containers… The food was starting to smell). By wearing his waste, Greenfield hopes to raise awareness on the excessive amount of trash that humans generate daily.
Greenfield is providing the citizens of New York City with an opportunity to see their waste. When we finish a box of cereal or ask for a few plastic bags from the grocery store, we’re only seeing one or a few pieces of waste at a time. We might notice a heavy can at the end of the week, but it stops there– My garbage only lasts from Tuesday to Tuesday.
By allowing his garbage to, literally, weigh him down, Greenfield is physicalizing the seemingly distant fact that most of us are consuming too much.
